T his weeks “Man of the Week” Beau Pollock is a jack of all trades. You may recognize Beau from his role as Creative Director of Surf Relik. Though Beau was newly appointed the title Creative Director, he has been working creatively in the Entertainment Industry for more than 15 years.
With a vast list of accredited jobs and accolades: Author, Curator, Media and Event Producer and Licensed Security Director, Beau has an impressive resume. For many people one profession would be a challenge, but Beau manages to do it all while raising his son.
It’s only fitting this skate, snowboard and surf enthusiast is also a style icon. His laid-back, chill style reminds me of effortless West Coast cool. Beau can be seen rocking the latest Levi’s 501 jeans and Vans around LA or cruising in his chic Airstream. But if that’s not sexy enough, Beau dotes on his ex-wife for being the most stylish and beautiful woman he knows. And I agree! Heather is a solid 10! Good looks run deep in their family by the looks of their young spawn, heartbreaker Hendrix Pollock.
1. Any major highlights this year?
2018 career wise has been a roller coaster for sure. I jumped onto a project with a couple new buddies and business partners and ended up spending a few months not having it not come to fruition. Definitely set me back a little bit but God’s plan was that I landed my first real career executive position with an amazing creative company so I’m stoked.
Personally 2018 has been a blessing as my son turned three, my other family is healthy and I feel and lucky to be living in such a beautiful area of the world in a free country with some great friends and colleagues.
2. What is your go-to fashion must have?
I have a few go-to fashion must haves one being Levi’s 501 jeans. I’ve been wearing them since I was literally in grade school. It’s pretty much the only thing I’ve ever worn until they had holes in them. I mix up the colors. I embarrassingly admit I was wearing some skinny jeans for a while. The 511’s.
Vans with Levi’s are the only shoes I’ve ever worn. My pops always had the slip ons. I did where some other brands of skateboarding shoes when I was skateboarding everyday because some of the core skate brands last longer. Shout to Emerica.
But my go-to fashion must have though is collecting vintage Pendleton shirts that I find either at thrift stores or vintage stores. They are all one off because they’re leftovers from the 50s and 60s. The prints, colors and material are 100% real wool you almost find in modern clothing brands. Quality over quantity. I’m against fast fashion. My son’s mom, Heather Roma, actually brought me awareness about it being the most wasteful and environmentally damaging industry up there with big energy. She’s a fashion designer and consultant and only works with sustainable companies and brands. Shout out to her and her for being who she is. Her company is called The Westside Collective so be sure to check it out. ❤️
3. What song do you have on repeat at the moment?
Honestly I’m into this white boy reggae band from Northern California which is funny because that’s where I grew up. They have a really great sound. It’s almost like a cross between reggae and Pink Floyd. They are called Stick Figure and y’all should look them up.
4. Best dating advice you would give someone?
Honesty is the most important thing to me so that’s the advice I would give. To be straight up with your intentions and how you feel all the time. That’s how you build trust and respect and create a true partnership. In my opinion so many people are willing to hide who they really are to get a girlfriend or boyfriend and that will never create true love. Show your scars. We all have them.
5. What’s the one thing on your bucket list you want to do before your die?
There’s quite a few but they change all the time as I get older. My real bucket list is to go to outerspace so I’m praying that space X and other private companies create a safe and reasonably affordable space travel within my lifetime. To the moon bitches!
6. One thing you love to see a girl wearing?
I’ve always been attracted to athletic women like dancers, yogis, tom boys, and when I was younger It was always the girls who played soccer or some kind of sports… so even now I get set off by a girl in yoga pants or some sweaty workout clothes with her hair up in a messy bun and the messy bun is for certain cherry on top. Something about that look and the whisps of hair on the back of the neck! 👌🏽😍
That said I also work in the arts & entertainment industry and I am mostly attracted to legs and a good set of tight jeans and some sick high heels on any lady is my other favorite. I love getting dressed up once in a while so I like dating someone or having a partner that likes to get fancy too. Honestly my son’s mom is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen though. Her style and raw fashion sense is uncanny.
7. Name one thing you can’t live without?
My son…….and sushi.
8. What is your fondest travel memory?
Man that is a tough one. Because honestly as soon as I got my license at 16 I took off and never looked back. Been through about 40 of our 50 beautiful American states and been international quite a few times as well. I will have to go with walking up the ancient cobblestone streets of Edinburgh Scotland to the Edinburg castle at the top of the hill and feeling my ancestery for millennia who walked those same ancient roads. I no doubt felt like my spirit had come home. I was so overtaken I couldn’t go inside the castle. I’ll go back someday with my son though and see inside. I’m directly related to Robert the Bruce one of the last Kings of Scotland. I think part of that is why my career has led me to a place of leadership and I actually plan to run for LA city Council sometime in the next decade. If you’re interested in more just google me I guess. Hah!
9. What is the craziest thing that’s ever happened to you?
Honestly I’ve had too many crazy things happen to me to list. But the craziest thing recently was last year. I was living in Hollywood and our apartment was targeted and set up by three guys for an armed robbery against my house mate and best friend… I jumped out of bed and grabbed my shotgun and loaded it and ended up having to pull out my gun and almost hit two of the guys. We caught one of them, he’s going to prison. LA can be a very unforgiving city. I support the Second Amendment in a jungle of a city like this. People need to defend themselves, their property and their loved ones. The arresting officer called me “the hero” but Benny would do the same thing for me in a heartbeat. We are brothers not just friends. LA is the real deal. “To Live and die in LA it’s the place to be”…
10. Who’s the most stylish person on the planet for you right now
I have to give it up to David Beckham. I played competitive soccer through college and I am planning on teaching my son. Soccer players are always cooler than football players! 😜BUT, he just legit seems like he has it all. His tattoos alongside of his European sensibility takes the cake. I’m NOT into the current trendy supercasual and raggedy hip-hop and urban mainstream styles. I prefer a more distinguished look. And oh my god, the new trend with these girls out at dinner and clubs with running shoes on and Baggy clothes? Shit just makes me gag. Kanye’s line is over priced rags. I prefer class over swag. I was against the ladies mom jeans come back at first but some of the girls are pulling it off now. Has to be the right fit for the booty.
11. Any exciting plans you are looking forward to before the end of the year?
Yeah, I’m super stoked on my position as Creative Director of Surf Relik. I am also head of production for a world tour of surf contests and also a bit of a Creative Director for some of those projects.
