Fillmore’s Landing is inspired by the local outdoor culture and rich family history. The cabin was originally hand-crafted by a father and son duo in 1960. It was built as a family vacation home and served as the grandparent’s home for years before making its way to becoming Fillmore’s Landing. We worked to keep as many rustic features as possible of the cabin while updating with all the modern amenities you want today. The original construction had some Bavarian features that we worked to keep and throughout the cabin we sought to keep the natural wood tones and natural colors that really bring the PNW outdoors inside. The wood stove is the original wood-burning stove that used to be the only heat source available. A cool feature is that the top can serve as a cooktop and we have had many guests cook woodfire pizza and more on it!
A feature we always add at our cabins is an incredible cedar soaking hot tub from Snorkel Hot tubs in Seattle, WA. They are constructed using local western red cedar and all handcrafted by Tom and his talented crew. The cedar tub at Fillmore’s is tucked into the little hillside underneath the trees in ear shot from the babbling creek in the back. It’s the perfect spot to soak away stress as you listen to the creek or the light rain/snow that falls in the wintertime.
The interior of the cabin is inspired by cozy yet functional designs that we find across the internet. Using natural tones, wood, and white accents, we try to create a space that brings the feeling you get when you stand beneath the towering PNW pines breathing in that fresh air. Our first step to designing our cabins is just spending time in the cabin as is and figuring out what feels natural. From there, we search across other properties and local facilities like historic National Park buildings and we look to capture the ones that feel right within the cabin. In all, we always set out with the goal to make the cabin a perfect space for friends and family to spend time together and make memories.
Hosting has been an incredible experience so far. It certainly comes with ups and downs as some guests are better than others, but overall, we got into the business because some of our greatest memories were made at the cabin. We wanted to give that opportunity to as many people as possible so it just felt right to start hosting cabins out in the wilderness. There is nothing better feeling then seeing families tagging their memories on social media, reading the guest book, and getting messages from guests that their stay was exactly what they needed.
Fillmore’s provides the rustic cabin experience but with all the modern amenities you want from a rental in the 21st century. With high-end mattresses and linens, a fully stocked kitchen, high-speed internet, and touches like the cedar soaking hot tub, we tirelessly work to give that cabin in the woods experience but with high-end features that are unique and help make memories even better. One small item that we do this with is a record player and a record collection of jazz, rock, country, and more. There is nothing better than coming in from a day of hiking, putting on a relaxing record, cooking dinner, and sharing it on the back deck beneath the trees.
Ashford is a sleepy little community right at the main gate to Mt. Rainier National Park. Although it lacks some features like a stable grocery store, and some restaurant accommodations are limited, it provides a perfect escape from everyone’s busy life. Everything moves a little slower out there and it’s a perfect feeling. On top of that, because of its proximity to the park, it has incredible access to amazing hiking trails, cross country skiing, fishing, and more. This makes it the perfect location to mix a little adventure with pure relaxation.
We are firm believers that there is no bad time to visit the cascade mountains and Ashford. However, the summer months are our most popular. The summer months provide great access to higher elevation hikes with immense views, yet perfect cooler nights that are still great for enjoying the soaking tub.
