Today marks the official first day of summer 2016. I’ve been anxiously counting down the days until summer all year and its finally here! Since I’ve drained my entire savings on my lifelong dream of designing and creating my own clothing and accessories brand (@5twonine launching August 2016), I’ve decided to share a few ways to reinvent your existing wardrobe for summer without dropping a dime.
Though I am a huge believer in new clothing for every season, realistically it’s not practical. Here are a few key pieces almost everyone owns that will always be in style: denim, stripes and booties. Together they make the perfect and effortless summer look. I wore the booties to the beach for this photo shoot otherwise I would have been barefoot in the sand.
I love rompers. They are cheap, easy to style and chic for day and nighttime looks. Though the verdict is still out on whether or not rompers are only a trend, it seems that they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Rock ’em if you got ’em! If rompers aren’t really your thing but you have a few stashed in your closest, heres a tip: cut them at the seam to make your own DIY crop top which is another one of my favorite summer looks. Thats not all, if you don’t mine dropping a few bucks for a tailor you can add a waistband on the button half of the cut romper to make a cute pair of shorts for a match matchy look. Even better you have two new separate summer pieces. For around $15 (varies between tailors) you’ve got yourself a new outfit.
We shot this look at the beach in honor of the first day of summer however since its typically 15+ degrees cooler beachside, I paired my look with a long-sleeved denim shirt. Denim is warm enough to wear when the cool breeze sweeps in, but light enough to walk the shore unbottoned with a quarter length rolled sleeve. If you are a bikini clad babe try draping a denim shirt around your waist or over you shoulders for another stylish look. A romper is great for throwing over a bikini for a beach day because it’s easily removable and packs nice and light in your bag.
Grab a towel, bottle of sunblock and some Avian and hit the beach this season with your oldie but goodie key pieces.
